Short Biography

Giuseppina Nocca is an Associate Professor in Biochemistry at the Catholic University in Rome, where she coordinates a research group engaged in the characterization of the Drug Delivery System. She has been carrying out research for 30 years in the field of biochemical interactions between cells and drugs and between cells and biomaterials (overall in the dentistry field). In particular, she has a documented experience in the study of the alterations of the metabolic pathways that underlie the toxicity of drugs or biomaterials, as a starting point for improving the biocompatibility characteristics of biomaterials, using both primary and stable cell cultures in 2D and 3D, together with techniques for the synthesis and characterization of nanocarriers for drug delivery. She is the author of over 60 full-length publications in indexed international journals with a total Impact Factor of 970 and an H-index of 20 (source: Scopus) and a total Impact Factor of 1318 and an H-index of 23 (source: google scholar) Prof. Nocca is the holder of numerous courses in disciplines related to the Biochemistry in the degree courses activated at the Rome office of the UCSC, including Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, Biotechnology for Personalized Medicine, and Cosmetological Sciences and Technologies. She is an editorial board member of seven journals. Dr. Paolo Frassanito, specialist in Neurosurgery, is a Consultant in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS in Rome, Italy. He was trained at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart in Rome under the guidance of Prof. Concezio Di Rocco and Prof. Massimo Caldarelli. He deepened his experience in pediatric neurosurgery also thanks to the European Postgraduate Course for Pediatric Neurosurgery (European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery, ESPN) and an Internship at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago (USA), under the guidance of Prof. Tadanori Tomita. He completed his PhD in Neuroscience in 2017 and is eligible for Associate Professor of Neurosurgery (MED27 06/E3) since 2018. He is active member of the Italian Society of Neurosurgery (SINch) and member of the Training and Education committee of the European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ESPN). His expertise covers the cranial and spinal surgery of traumatic, malformative, infectious, vascular, and tumoral pathologies in children with special interest in cranial repair, as also proven by several scientific publications, the involvement in educational activities on this topic, and the clinical counselling for Fin-Ceramica Faenza S.p.A..

Short Biography

Wanda Lattanzi is medical geneticist and Associate Professor of Experimental Biology at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, in Rome, and the UCSC representative for International exchanges and cooperation. She holds a documented scientific expertise on osteogenesis and bone regeneration, mesenchymal stromal cells and regenerative medicine, genetic pathophysiology of bone disorders, using in vitro and in vivo models, and implementing gene-targeting and functional knock-down to reprogram stem cells fate. Her research is supported through grant from national and international agencies and relies on a wide network of international scientific collaborations. She is the coordinator of the genetics working group within the European Reference Network for rare and/or complex craniofacial and ENT disorders (ERN-CRANIO), the Italian representative of the ERN-CRANIO at the Italian Ministry of Health. Prof Lattanzi authored over 75 papers on international peer-reviewed journals, served as speaker and Faculty in several congresses, advanced courses and scientific events, and in the PhD school in Experimental and Translational Medicine at her university,

Chunhong Zhang is a professor in College of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, Harbin Engineering University and Yantai Research Institute of Harbin Engineering University, China. In 1994, she obtained her B.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from Heilongjiang University. In 1994-2000, she worked as a Chemical Engineer in Heilongjiang Provincial Nylon Factory. In 2002 and 2005, she respectively obtained her M.E and Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology. In 2005, she joined in Harbin Engineering University as an Associate Professor. In 2008-2009, she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Laboratory of Polymer Chemistry in Hokkaido University, Japan. In 2015, she was promoted to a full professor. She received Heilongjing Provincial Sicence and Technology Award in 2011 and 2021 from the government of Heilongjiang Province, and the Distingished Lectureship Award in 2013 from the Chemical Society of Japan. Chunhong Zhang is author and co-authors of one hundred international and national scientific publications related to materials science.

Cristina Satriano is Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemical Sciences of Catania University, Italy.

Her multidisciplinary research activity focuses on the design, the synthesis, and the physicochemical characterization of multifunctional nanomaterials for applications in theranostics, nanomedicine and environment. She leads the Hybrid NanoBioInterfaces Lab (NHBIL), where the current main ongoing topics are: i) nanomaterial-based artificial enzymes (nanozymes) based on plasmonic nanoparticles and 2D materials, including graphene, graphene oxide, molybdenum disulfide; ii) peptide-decorated nanoparticles with pro- or anti-angiogenic activity respectively for tissue repair or tumor therapy; iii) new nanomedicine approaches for CNS protection and repair using neurotrophin-like peptides, supported lipid bilayers,  and the study of the correlation between vascular disorders and neurodegenerative diseases; iv) the plasmonic tuning of photothermal and photocatalytic properties of graphene and other 2D materials; v) self-cleaning, smart surfaces for antibacterial and environmental use.

She has an established network of national (Universities of Pisa, Bologna, Bari, CNR, EBRI) and international (Belgium, Sweden, Austria, US, Turkey, Spain, India, UK) collaborations, with both academic and industrial (FIDIA Pharma group, EUROFARM, IONICS) partners. Prof. Satriano is board member of the doctoral schools in Chemical Sciences (University of Catania), STER Doctoral School (Poznan University of Technology, Poland), Biomaterials & Biointerfaces (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, BOKU, Austria). She is lecturer of 3 PhD/master/undergraduate courses in the fields of physical chemistry of nanomaterials, biointerfaces and theranostics. In the last ten years, she supervised >35 (undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D.) students. She has published more than 130 articles in peer reviewed international journals. Professor, Nanning City C category of excellence. He is a visiting scholar and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan, USA. He is a member of the Chinese Chemical Society, Chinese Optical Society, Chinese Optical Engineering Society, Chinese Chemical Society, the first director of the Shenzhen Medical Research Promotion Association, a member of the Guangxi Council of the European and American Association, and a member of Nordic Zero Carbon Committee of European and American Association. Director of China-Ukraine Joint Research Centre for Nano Carbon Black. The first batch of university student innovation and entrepreneurship instructors in Guangxi. He is an expert in the evaluation of science and technology projects in Guangxi, Chongqing, Jiangxi, and Hebei Provinces (cities and Provinces) and an expert in the online evaluation of the National Natural Science Foundation. Master’s supervisor at Shaanxi Normal University and visiting professor of Shenzhen Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He completed two projects for the National Natural Science Foundation of the PRC as PI and is now presiding over 1 project of the Ministry of Science and Technology for high-end talents and 1 major special project of Guangxi Province for innovation-driven development. He has chaired and completed 5 projects of the Guangxi Province Science and Technology Program, including 2 projects of the Key Research Program. He is also in charge of the project “Yongjiang Plan” for the leading talents of innovation and entrepreneurship in Nanning City. He has obtained 11 registrations of scientific and technological achievements in Guangxi, applied for 43 invention and utility model patents, and obtained 17 authorizations. In the past three years, He has published more than ten SCI Q1 and Q2 manuscripts. He has guided students to win 70s awards from the Guangxi Province and China in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. He has won four national silver and bronze medals, and more than ten special prizes (gold medals) in Guangxi, such as the National Student Challenge Cup and the National Student Connect+ Competition.

Gianpiero Tamburrini is  Associate Professor of  Neurosurgery, Institute of Neurosurgery at the Catholic University Medical School in Rome, Italy and Chair of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Unit at the Fondazione Policlinico Gemelli IRCCS in Rome, Italy. He is President of the European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ESPN), Advisor for Italy of the Membership Committee and Member of the Scientific Committee of the ISPN (International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery) . Associate Editor for the journals  Child’s Nervous System and Pediatric Neurosurgery. His main fields of  expertise are cranial and spinal malformative pathologies, brain tumors, ventricular endoscopy for the management of hydrocephalus and CSF disorders, surgical treatment of pharmacoresistant epilepsy. He has been Author/coauthor of 235 peer reviewed impacted international papers and of 35 chapters of scientific books and  has participated as Faculty to more than 70 International Pediatric Neurosurgery Courses (ESPN, ISPN, WFNS, IFNE) giving 160 invited lectures.

Dr. Serena Danti is Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering, University of Pisa, where she leads the research activity in the field of Biomaterials. She is Team Leader of Otologic Bioengineering laboratory (OtoLab) at Cisanello Hospital in Pisa. Her research interest relies on smart biomaterial approaches for pathology resolution, such as ear, bone and cancer.

Serena Danti serves as Professor of “Biomaterials” and “Biofluids & materials Interactions” for the M.Sc. in Materials & Nanotechnology and for the B.Sc. in Speech Therapy at University of Pisa. She is a reference Professor and Board member of the Erasmus Mundus M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Materials Science “BIOPHAM”.

Dr. Danti received her M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pisa in 2003, with a major in Materials. In 2006, she was a scholar research associate at the Centre for Excellence in Tissue Engineering, Rice University, Houston TX. Dr. Danti received her Ph.D. in “Health Technologies: Evaluation and Management of Innovations in the Biomedical Field” in 2007 by the Centre for Excellence in Computer Assisted Surgery (ENDOCAS), University of Pisa. Her postdoctoral training was performed at the Centre for the Clinical Use of Stem Cells (CUCCS), and, as a senior Post Doc, at the Otorhinolaryngology Unit, Department of Neurosciences/Surgical, Medical & Molecular Pathology, University of Pisa. She received two research fellowships from Pisa Hospital, ENT, Audiology & Phoniatrics Unit, where she established OtoLab in 2010.

Dr. Danti is Affiliate researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, USA since 2017 and at the BioRobotics Institute, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pontedera (Pisa) since 2014. She is a member of 3R’s center (Italy). Serena Danti was coordinator of the European project 4NanoEARDRM (EuroNanoMed 3). Moreover, she is currently involved in several national projects in the field of biomaterial approaches to different pathologies, including sinonasal cancer (ADAPTA), bone loss (ANGIOSS) and malnutrition (BIONUTRA). Dr. Danti has published more than 120 papers indexed in Scopus, including 12 book chapters. Dr. Danti is an inventor of 5 patents.
